What the Heck is a Pecha Kucha Anyway?

The PechaKucha 20x20 presentation format is a slide show of 20 images, each auto-advancing after 20 seconds. It’s non-stop and presenters have 400 seconds to tell their story, with visuals guiding the way. Inspired by their desire to "talk less, show more", Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo's Klein-Dytham Architecture (KDa) created PechaKucha in February 2003.

It was a way to attract people to SuperDeluxe, their experimental event space in Roppongi, and to enable young designers to meet, show their work, and exchange ideas in 6 minutes 40 seconds. The word “PechaKucha” is Japanese for “chit chat.”

Pecha Kucha has flourished in popularity over the last few decades and Pecha Kucha Nights are now held in more than 1,200 cities worldwide. And more than 3 million people have attended a Pecha Kucha Night.

A typical PechaKucha Night includes 6 - 8 presentations. Volunteer presenters from our community share creative work or speak about passion topics such as travels, research projects, student projects, hobbies, collections, social issues or other interests.

The Sparks Flew in Every Direction

The Let Sparks Fly Conference was held Saturday 18 February at the Agora in Sherwood Park, the day was crammed full of ideas, information and inspiration from headliner presenters, entertainment and more - all to make the life, work and play of attendees more rewarding.

challenges. In fact, out of surveys received 100% of attendees told us the event met or

exceeded their expectations
